Visiting Dunham Massey today we decided to visit the new layout of the hall. Recently it had been transformed into the hospital it was during the first world war which was very interesting and reminded me of my nurse training days, although that was 50 odd years after the war there were lots of similarities. Now it tells the story of how the Earl defied convention and married a circus performer and how they were shunned by society and how the estate of Dunham suffered because of it. We then walked round the more formal gardens with the rhododendrons in full colour. There was a ‘circus’ in town on the lawns for the kids to see how the circus worked. After all this culture tea and scones was the order of the day!
