The adventure begins
After a delayed flight from Heathrow we eventually arrived at our Los Angeles hotel ready for nothing but crashing out. Fortunately the bed was comfortable but unfortunately I realised why ear plugs were part of our welcome package!! Right on the runway, and an airport that doesn’t stop flights overnight….. need I say more!
With an eight hour difference in time zone from home we were wide awake at 4 am. After pottering about until the coffee shop was open we investigated ways of getting to see the city. We decided the best option was the hop on hop off bus, it’s a huge city to negotiate and fortunately the bus stops yards from the front of the hotel.
The weather is cool, windy, sunny, hot so what to wear is a challenge!
Despite the information from the bus company being misleading, confusing and at times downright wrong, we managed to see quite a bit of the city,
Fisherman’s Village, which was quite deserted at 9.30am
Venice Beach, walked Santa Monica Pier,
the obligatory visit to Rodeo Drive,
…….with the most delicious lunch in Beverley Hills, before heading back to the hotel exhausted.
Tomorrow we pick up our hire car for the start of our journey north, following the coast, as far as Seattle. We then head back south inland through the national parks and back to LA mid June.
